NAPBOX Project

NAPBOX PROJECT is a consulting work to implement efficient operating strategies within a hostel. This consultancy reached the prototype stage in which an evaluation diagnosis is created for hostels divided into three categories: marketing, infrastructure and services. Each diagnosis has been assigned a series of variables and each variable is assigned a value. Depending on the result, a series of actions are developed to help each hostel focus on the category with the weakest result.

Four hostels were analyzed for this prototype stage: Aura Thematic Hostel, Cambodia; Queensark, Sri Lanka; SleepCheap, Sri Lanka and Adler Hostel, Singapore. Of these four, I have selected two with palpable results.

Case 1: Queensark, Nallathaniya, Sri Lanka

Queensark is a hostel under construction located in Nallkathaniya, at the foot of the famous Adam's Peak mountain. In this hostel the diagnosis showed reinforce marketing, its weak point. Photographic work was done, an evaluation of texts on the internet and a voice-to-speech strategy design with the town's taxi drivers. The hostel applied the diagnostic recommendations and is now 9.0 in Booking, being the best evaluated in the area.

Case 2: SleepCheap, Ella, Sri Lanka

SleepCheap is a hostel located in Ella, Sri Lanka, in a house near the train tracks and in the middle of a tea plantation, tourist attraction of the place. After the diagnosis, a deliverable was made to the site where infrastructure recommendations such as bathroom, reception and common areas were given. Unfortunately they did not apply the recommendations given and closed in September 2019.

SleepCheap, Ella, Sri Lanka, final report.
